Outline Assignment
It has been noted in several studies that in the years following the COVID-19 pandemic and forced school shut downs, students had to find new ways to engage with their peers and the world. Analysis of national and state test scores (Turner 2025) has revealed that many students may still be at least one-half grade levels behind in reading and math. Cell phones and social media became the focus of most students' lives. The addiction to cell phones and instant gratification has reduced the urgency for school. It is my hope that a blended learning approach might improve the engagement and success of students in my school. This action research will help me to focus and refine my Innovation Plan. By reflecting and revising my Literature Review from earlier in the program, and by using my Article draft, I will be able to prepare a better action research plan.
I. What is the topic of your action research? | The topic of my action research is to determine the affect of the blended learning classroom on student engagement and success in the high school ELA classroom. The focus of my Innovation Plan is the creation and use of the Blended Classroom. |
II. What is the purpose of the study? | The purpose of my action research is to determine how to improve instruction and purpose in the ELA classroom and to increase learner involvement and success. |
III. What is your research question? | What is the impact of the blended learning classroom model on student engagement in grades nine through twelve in the high school ELA classroom? |
IV. What is your research design (Qualitative, Quantitative, or Mixed Methods) | The design of my research action is mixed methods. I feel that a mix of qualitative and quantitative data is best used to get the most reliable results. |
a. Why did you choose this design | I choose this design as learner engagement and success can not only be measured using learner scores, but also through reflection of the learner on their learning and processes and success, and through critique/ reflection of my role as coach, mentor, and facilitator. It is necessary to allow the learner to reflect on COVA. |
VI. What types of measurement will you use? | I will utilize Google form surveys, Likert scales, a comparison to past successes/ failures in ELA classrooms; self, peer, and teacher critiques and measures. |
VII. What is the focus of your lit review? | The focus of my Literature Review will be how Blended Learning and CSLE+COVA increases student engagement and success. This aligns to the draft digital article that I created earlier in my ADL program. |
